and more January 08 oils...

I have been very creative... I hope to continue like this for a while, but I am thinking it is better not to post any new oils because I am planning to have an exhibition soon and I do think surprises are better :)

My first 2008 painting

The times we spend behind the canvas are not at all moments of escape. On the contrary they are moments in which we confront with our real beings...
I was dealing tough times, due to several matters I wasn't able to paint in months. And it is so hard for me to start again, to find myself again... the muse calls for your constant attention and demands total commitment. I have been flirting with her during these days. This one was the first oil on canvas of this year (120 x 100 cm)

Holbox...THE Island

HOLBOX

Long time ago, when my German friend Jürgen was in Mexico he discovered this little island near Cancun, he told me it was one of the most incredible experiences he has had, a place that leaves you without breath. Since then I wanted to be there and now that I know that I will live this year in Europe I decided that I cannot leave Mexico without visiting first
Holbox.
When we arrived to Holbox it started to rain :((( The fishermen told us that the storm will stay at least 3 days.... 3 days, just the time we were supposed to be there. During 2 days the winds were so strong that we couldn't hire a bike to make a tour through the island, it was of course impossible to swim, nor to take a boat to the other islands: the bird island and passion island and another place where you might make scuba dive with whale sharks and rays. (Whale sharks are the biggest fish on earth, up to 15 meters long, but they are harmless since they feed from plancton)
Of course with such a storm the water color was not turquoise blue but green gray, and there were obviously any flamingos at the beach. It was also not possible to visit Yalahau, the fresh water eye (cenote) with many migratory bird species.
It was also very cold, of course I was not expecting a cold weather so I had to wear 4 or 5 t-shirts at the same time and during the night I had to sleep like a mermaid with my "rebozo" rolled on my legs!
And in spite of all these facts I had a crush on the island. That is true love....yes, for me true love is when you love someone in spite of all his faults, it is easy to love somebody because of his virtues, but true love is when you love his defects as well....

Holbox is a magic island... I thank Jürgen, I thank Artemisa too... she was there and told me of the flamingos, the beach....

We ate delicious too because some Italians have settled there and they make handmade pasta! mmmmmh!, and the Mexican food is also superb! it is made with all that fresh seafood. The first day we were there we met González Iñarritu, our famous Babel regisseur, will he make a new film in Holbox?

For the first time in my life I know where I want to finish my life....at the Black Whole, because Holbox means that: "Hol" means hole in Maya :)))))))

The Mexican Southeast

It was one of the most beautiful trips I have ever made in my whole life...it was quite an experience because I travelled alone with my son. I was also looking for my roots because my great great grandmother was Mayan :)
Now I feel so full with energy! I need from time to time to be at the sea... it is like a rebirth, I got from the sea a kind of strenght and besides I feel so proud of my roots! The trip began with the worst part: CANCUN. The pics I am posting here are from there. OK, Cancun has an incredible beautiful sea, white sand, warm water... but what they have built there is a shame. As my friend Lizet told me it is like "Las Vegas at the beach", those luxus and horrible hotels that does not have anything to do with our culture :( That is not Mexico!
But in spite of that I enjoyed the caribbean sea and the warmth....because the best was yet to come :))))))))))
